Processing uses QPDF WebAssembly in a temporary browser Worker. Your PDF and password are not uploaded, sent to analytics, or saved to browser storage. The password field is cleared after each attempt.

Unlock a PDF with its password

  1. Choose a protected PDF.

Select one PDF up to 20 MB and 500 pages. The local processor checks its encryption format.

  2. Enter a valid password.

Use a password that is authorized to open the document. Incorrect passwords receive a safe error; no guessing is attempted.

  3. Download the unlocked copy.

The password is used only in temporary browser memory. The new copy is checked to ensure it opens without a password.

Supported file

Use one readable PDF up to 20 MB and 500 pages. Standard PDF password encryption supported by QPDF may be removed only with a valid password. Proprietary DRM or unknown security handlers are not supported.

Local processing

The PDF and password are held temporarily in browser memory and processed by QPDF WebAssembly in a temporary Worker. Neither is sent to EkkySoft or analytics or saved to browser storage.

Document limitations

Protection encrypts PDF strings and streams with AES-256; it is not a substitute for safe password sharing. Decryption and encryption rewrite the document, invalidating digital signatures. Never use PDF permission flags as a substitute for encryption.

Questions and troubleshooting.

Can this tool recover a forgotten password?

No. It does not crack, guess, brute-force, or bypass encryption. You must provide a password that opens the PDF and have authorization to create an unencrypted copy.

Which encryption formats are supported?

The tool uses QPDF's standard PDF password security handler, including common AES and legacy RC4 formats where QPDF supports the file. Proprietary DRM and unsupported security handlers cannot be unlocked.

Will my password be sent or saved?

No. The password and PDF are processed locally in a temporary browser Worker, are not sent to analytics or EkkySoft, and are not saved in browser storage.

Will the unlocked copy keep its digital signature?

No. Decryption rewrites the file, so existing digital signatures no longer validate. Keep the original if signature evidence is important.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?

The tool reports that the password did not unlock the PDF, clears the password field, and does not offer an output file.
